MAYBELLINE Superstay Matte Ink, now available in India at nykaa.com for Rs 650 / 5 ml
I have had the shade #45 Escapist with me for a while now and now that these lipsticks are available in India, I think its the best time for me to share my thoughts on the same.
Packaging, nothing extraordinary! Color coded tubes with an applicator wand that is quite nice in the sense that it has a beautiful arrow shaped head with a tiny pool of the product in the center. Helps you reach the innermost corners of the lip and gives you a precise application, especially along the Cupid’s bow. Applicator, I like!
Escapist is a blackened plum kind of shade that may actually look almost black in certain lights. The formula is thick and creamy, and quite pigmented, and despite being such a dark shade, it was not patchy during application.
I actually have mixed feelings about the MAYBELLINE Superstay Matte Ink. The lipstick tends to sit heavily on the lips and you are constantly reminded of the fact that there is something on the lips. Then again, because it is tacky on the surface, it is not drying like other liquid matte lipsticks. Maybelline claims a 16 hour wear on these but I personally feel that it’s taking it a bit too far. The formula is certainly long wearing but I noticed it turning patchy on the center of the lip after light eating, in about 6-7 hours. That’s also a fair amount of time I think, so if you ignore the claims, it’s probably a nice long lasting lip color.
Also, I have a hunch that the lighter shades from the range may wear a little better and little longer without turning patchy. All kinds of dark shades usually have issues like these so I am not exactly blaming Maybelline. but yes, the heavy tackiness on the lips post application is certainly something that can be looked into.
Should you get one? Probably yes, if you don’t mind the tackiness that is!
