Well so the entire world went crazy when Lakme launched the 9 to 5 Weightless Mousse Lip and Cheek Color and I am no exception. To test the formula, I first bought only 1 shade, i.e. Coffee Lite. And it worked out so well for me that I decided to get another one and ended up buying Plum Feather too. And today, I am going to review both of these shades in this post.

The Lakme 9 to 5 Weightless Mousse Lip and Cheek Color come in a simple flesh toned tube with a rose gold cap. The applicator is well-type one that holds quite a bit of product and saves you the trouble of dipping into the tube every now and then. The biggest drawback of this packaging is that there is no color indicator on the packaging, except for a tiny sticker at the bottom. Now, if that goes away, you’d just be left with guessing the product names if you have more than a few of these.
The formula on these Lakme 9 to 5 Weightless Mousse Lip and Cheek Color is actually the star. It’s a soft, extremely light mousse like texture. The product is packed with pigment so you don’t need to layer it up. The lip and cheek color dries to a true velvety matte finish which makes it perfect for everyday wear which is exactly what the 9 to 5 range is for. Also, it is quite versatile since it can be used both as a lip and cheek color. When using on the cheeks, you can get best results if you use a stippling brush and blend quickly.
The lip and cheek color sets pretty fast, like in just about a minute and is almost transfer proof afterwards. The colors are really long lasting on the lips and I easily get about 5-6 hours of wear with these. Although fading is minimal, the product has a tendency to move away from the centre of the lip with eating and drinking and a post-lunch touchup is kind of must. Another disadvantag of this product is that it has a tendency to settle into the lip lines and make them look more prominent. I don’t have dry lips but still after long hours of wear, like about 7-8 hours and more, this lip and cheek color had sucked away all the moisture from my lips and the next day I am left struggling with chapped lips. So maybe people with perpetually dry lips can give these a miss. On the brighter side, these do not feather or bleed at all and do not need much attention once you have them on.
I have two shades with me, Coffee Lite which is a beautiful Soft Brown with cool Taupe undertones and is such a radical shade for this season. Also, it is kind of unique for my collection and I really have been enjoying wearing this a lot in the last few weeks. The other shade I have is Plum Feather which is a lovely plum shade with warm reddish tones.
The Final Verdict!
I have mixed feelings about the Lakme 9 to 5 Weightless Mousse Lip and Cheek Color. One one hand I love the light mousse-y texture that sits beautifully on the lips and of course their long-lasting ability. On the other hand I don’t like how dry my lips feel afterwards. But in the end, these are surely worth a try!
And yes, these are quite comparable to the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams, except that the NYX ones aren’t as drying. But the applicators on this one is better and the pigments are also stronger. And yes, the fragrance is also similar, albeit a little stronger in the Lakme ones.
