Today, I have a very interesting and extensive post for you all. Maybelline has recently launched a ton of new products in the market after the Amazon Fashion Week. I have been quite excited all this while to finally see some contouring products being launched in India. Being the talkative one that I am, I can just go on ranting for ever and ever, BUT I would strictly try to keep this post as precise and to the point as possible. The products that I have up for review are as follows:
Maybelline New York V-Face Contour by Face Studio
- Duo Stick in the shade Medium-Dark
- Duo Powder in the shade Light Medium
- Blush Contour in PINK
Maybelline New York Lash Sensational Full Fan Effect Mascara in Blackest Black , Washable variant
Maybelline New York Color Show Party Girl Nail Polish in 114 Fireworks, 117 Rock The Night
Maybelline New York COLORsensational VIVID Matte Lipstick in VIVID 8
I had initially decided to cover all of the above mentioned products in one post but since it’s gotten a bit too long I will break it into two parts. In this particular post I would only review the V-Face Contour line and the rest of the products would follow in the next post!
The Maybelline V-Face range is a specially designed line with 3 different contouring products about all of which I will talk one by one.
Maybelline New York V-Face Duo-Stick By FACESTUDIO, Medium-Dark
Price: Rs 650/ 8.5 g, available at Amazon.in
The Maybelline V-Face Duo Stick is available in two shades, Light to Medium and Medium to dark. The packaging of this contouring stick is very convenient with a contouring bullet on one side and a highlighting bullet on the other side. The caps on both sides shut tightly and makes this an easy to carry product.
The texture of the product is rich and creamy, more so especially on the contouring side. The contour side applied and blended easily owing to its consistency. However, even though I have the Duo Stick in the shade Medium to Dark, I had trouble getting the contour to show up on my NC 42 skin. It is all the more difficult since the product obviously sheers out when blended. I really wish Maybelline had come up with at least 2 more dark variants on this contouring skin to suit the wide variety of Indian skin. I do not see myself using this side often because it’s too much of an effort to build up the color layer by layer. The good thing is it’s matte. So if you anywhere under NC 40, you will totally enjoy using this product.
On the contrary, I absolutely love the highlighting side. It has a texture that is smooth, but not overly creamy. After trying the contouring side, I was kind of afraid that the highlighting side might be a little crumbly but surprisingly it is not. Infact, I love how the highlighter kind of sets into a semi powdery sort of finish that is a boon for combination skin girls like me. Also, the highlighting side has a pearlescent sheen which give a nice radiant and glowy look to the face sans any chunky glitter or shimmer. It is as natural as a highlighter can be and I am really thrilled that we have a drugstore highlight that is this good. I know I am going to use up this side faster than the other!
Other than that, as an overall product, I am just not happy since this would only suit a selected skin tone range.
Maybelline New York V-Face Duo-Powder By FACESTUDIO, Light-Medium
Price : Rs 500 / 8.5 g, available at Amazon.in
The Maybelline V-Face Duo Powder is also available in two shades, Light-Medium and Medium-Dark. I had initially ordered the Medium-Dark variant of this powder, however I got the wrong shade delivered to me. I really did not have much patience to wait for the next one so just decided to ask for a refund. The customer care at Amazon India was really nice and asked me to keep the product and also issued me a refund against the wrong product so that was really nice of them. It saved me a lot of hassle!
The Maybelline New York V-Face Duo-Powder By FACESTUDIO comes encased in a lovely 2 compartment case, this duo finishing powder with SPF 32 PA +++ probably has the softest creamiest texture I have seen in recent times in a face powder. It’s a flip top packaging with the upper compartment encasing the powder and the lower compartment encasing the brush and the mirror. The brush isn’t quite bad as such but it sure picks up a lot of product and loosens up a lot of powder as well so I prefer not to use it. When I first swiped the product, the powder seemed to melt under my fingertips. I am not kidding girls, that’s exactly how it felt. It got me a little curious to check on the ingredient list and I got my answers over there. The product does have silicones and talc and that what gives it such a smooth texture. Honestly, I am not that fond of talc based powders on my face, especially on areas with open pores because they are more prone to breakouts. I am still okay with silicones and not that allergic to them. Anyway, if these ingredients don’t bother you, then you are good to go on from here. I just thought I would let you all know.
The V-Face Duo Powder has a V-design, on the upper portion of which is a highlighting powder and the bottom portion is a contour powder. You can either use the powders separately or swirl a brush on the surface to get a mix of both the shades. I must mention here that there is a slight iridescence in the highlighting powder portion while the contour powder is a flat matte one.
So yes, the shade Light-Medium is definitely not my shade and I have already told you so. I have tested this powder under the eyes as a setting powder for my concealer and it works well. The texture is very fine and the coverage is light. The powders blends easily and seamlessly. It stays for barely 2-3 hours on my face though. The Maybelline V-Face Duo Powder also doesn’t help in keeping oiliness at bay and needs a touch-up at regular intervals.
I do believe there are better powders in the drugstore makeup category, priced in the same bracket and with better shade range and ingredient list. Totally avoidable!!
Maybelline New York V-Face Blush Contour By FACESTUDIO, Pink
Price : Rs 550 / 4 g , available at Amazon.in
Lastly from the Maybelline New York V-Face range is the Blush Contour that is available in 3 pretty girly shades, Pink, Peach and Brown. I don’t know why but I decided to pick up the Pink blush from the range. I should have instead picked up either of the other two but anyway, I really didn’t think much because all three kind of looked similar to me on amazon.
So yes, lets talk about this soft pink girly blush. It’s a V-design with the centre part holding the rosy pink blush, and a light pink powder on one side and soft brown contour powder on the other side. The product did seem like it wont show up on my skin but surprisingly it does, and it shows up so good! It’s a decently pigmented powder, with a very soft and smooth texture. It blends easily on the cheeks whether you use the shades on their own or mix them up with the swirl of a brush.
This is my first powder blush from Maybelline, omg! Can you believe it?? And I am totally in love. All the three shades in the Blush Contour are matte so yays to that.
And this blush stays, like easily for as long as you base makeup is intact.
The V-Face Blush Contour in PINK is a lovely product to have in any girls’s vanity. It’s the kind of shade you can wear everyday. I have also checked out the two other shades at my local makeup counters and they are all so good. You do get a good amount of product at that price so do check these out!
This is the end of Part 1 of my post covering New Launches by Maybelline. Part 2 of the post will be up on the blog tomorrow.
P.S.: I would have loved to show you guys how the products look on my skin but unfortunately, I am just recuperating from an eye infection so I will wait for another day or two before I can apply makeup around my eye area. Do stay tuned because I’m definitely going to post a look with all these products very soon.
P.P.S.: All the products mentioned here have been bought with my own money and were not sponsored or sent to me by the Brand/PR.
