Lip Markers aren’t exactly a new thing in the beauty world. Almost everyone has tried a few of these during their “HOT” phase. However since I had never tried a lip marker before, I had picked up one of these from KIKO a while back in April. In this post I will try to jot down my thoughts about the KIKO MILANO Long Lasting Colour Lip Marker 106. The shades only have a number on the packaging, but I realized these also have a name on the KIKO Website and this one in particular is called Apple Red.
KIKO MILANO Long Lasting Colour Lip Marker comes in a handy marker pen like packaging that is quite easy to use and store/carry.
The marker pen like packaging makes the product super easy to use. The pointed lip ensures you reach the corners of your lips and high points of the cupid’s bow with much ease. To cover the lips with color, I usually try to use the vertical side of the marker tip instead of the pointed tip. That ensures not only a faster and fuller application but also ensures that your pen tip stays intact for longer.
The shade 106 APPLE RED is actually the color of a dark berry-red apple skin. To my eyes, it is quite a complex color in the sense that it appears berry at first and then the red tones deepen in about 5 mins and then there is a really dark berry-maroon shade with strong hints of red, which are more visible when the color fades out.
The actual product is much like a watery stain, that applies sheer and quite quickly settles down to a very dark color. The first time I applied it, I was shocked to see my face in the mirror after about 30 mins of application. It didn’t look like the color I had put on a while back. And then I thought maybe I applied too many layers, so the next time, I only applied like 2 layers and again it was this really dark stain. And to make things more difficult, I realized that the colour wasn’t too pigmented and had a translucent quality to it. So while the shade was really really deep, my lip imperfections were still visible.
The color is quite lightweight to wear. It sits comfortably for long hours, like about 10-12 without noticeable fading. It also survives meals. I wore it at about 6 in the morning, took a train from Rome, went to Venice, spent the entire day in Venice, came back to Rome in the night and even at around 10 pm, the color was intact. It might probably fade a little bit from the centre if you eat something oily.
It is a hypoallergic and paraben free formula and thus safe for lips.
Overall, I have mixed feelings about the KIKO MILANO Long Lasting Colour Lip Marker. While the application, longevity and color itself so appeals to me, I dislike the fact that the formula is quite thin and doesn’t give enough coverage. Also, the fact that the color darkens a lot over time may be a bummer for some. Depending upon how you choose to look at it, it might appeal to some and it might not. It’s an interesting product to have in your vanity btw.
