Introducing PROUDLY INDIAN SERIES – Marathi Bridal

Hi everyone,

Hope you all are doing great and enjoy the onset of monsoons over the Indian Peninsula. Monsoons bring a refreshing change from the dry and sickeningly hot North Indian weather. It is a great weather to mark a transition and maybe enjoy the fresh beginnings. With the change in weather, there also has been a significant change in my life with me chucking the corporate life to be at home for my kid and also give more time to the love of my life, i.e. makeup.

I have planned a new series on the blog called PROUDLY INDIAN in which I would attempt to create and compile some regional looks from across the nation. India is a country with vast cultural heritage and I am so proud to be a citizen of this great nation. Across the variety of cultures and customs, I have seen and have been mesmerised by the many forms of makeup and beautification practices that women in different regions of our country have practised for generations. My aim during this particular series is mainly to attempt doing regional makeup looks as well as talk about many other subjects that are typically Indian and close to my heart, example my love for Indian fabrics and textiles and some traditions and practices. Of course, Love Thy Red being a beauty blog, the subjects would have some sort of connection with beauty and women in general.

To mark the beginning of the series, I start with a Marathi Bridal Look. The inspiration behind this look goes to one of my very close Maharashtrian friend who gifted me the nathni (nose pin) that you see in the following pictures, and of course my four years of education in the state. Being a Bengali, it probably would have been much easier to start with a Bengali look, but I was so inclined to use the nose pin that I ended up doing Marathi look first. Also, a lot of other accessories were brought in by another close friend who is also the photographer behind the lens, like the bridal headband, those typical green glass bangles etc. I am no pro, and I am sure the look could have been much better, yet, I hope you will like it.

P.S. : The sun was playing hide and seek that day, and it was so still and extremely humid. My camera lens kept turning foggy and I was so drenched in sweat within 5 mins, and precisely after maybe 20 shots, it started raining cats and dogs and we had to rush back indoors. We had so much fun doing this look, and were laughing so hard since some passerby people gave us such funny stares. Phew! what an eventful day it was.
