Maybelline recently launched the Color Show Lipsticks in India in 21 exciting shades and honestly, the price tag was so tempting that I just went ahead and picked two of these (though I usually stick to the rule of buying only one shade from a new launch, unless the deal is too tempting!!)
Maybelline has launched these Colorshow lipsticks in very similar packaging that they used to have for lipsticks around 9-10 years back. I remember my first Maybelline Lipstick had a very similar case, only the casing color was a bit different. Anyway, being a budget lipstick, the packaging is very simple, Black casing, with a center band, the color of which I believe has something to do with the color family the lipsticks belong to, because one of my lipsticks has a reddish center band, and the other has a translucent beige-brown band. Even though the packaging is simple, it nowhere looks cheap. Also, there is a whopping 3.9 g of product inside .. Big thumbs from my side to Maybelline for these points!!
The shade Cherry Crush is a gorgeous vivid Red-ish Pink with shiny glossy finish. The formula is slick with considerable amount of slip on the lips if there’s a layer of moisture underneath. My recommendation is to wipe your lips of all additional moisture to get a smooth even finish of the lip color. Being a creamy formula, the lipstick also tends to feather slightly, so using a lip liner is advisable if you want to increase the staying power on the lips.
Cherry Crush is a medium pigmented lipstick and needs layering and some extra effort to get smooth seamless finish on the lips. The formula is quite creamy when applied but the moisture doesn’t exactly seep into the lips so when the color wears off, your lips wouldn’t exactly be moisturized.
The color wears for 3-4 hours on me without eating/drinking, and this particular shade did stain my lips lightly which I loved.
Overall, The Maybelline Color Crush Lipstick in the shade Cherry Crush is a bright Red-Pink that is medium pigmented and needs layering and effort for a smooth even finish. The lipstick tends to feather out and isn’t exactly a long staying lip color, which is exactly how Maybelline describes it to be. The shades are eye catching but the finish is not same across the range. I have another color which performed very differently from this one, so the performance depends a lot on what colors you pick. Other than that, I think these would make great budget lipsticks and would be quite popular in the days to come especially since there’s a huge shade selection available and it has a good mix of Reds, Pinks, Oranges and Browns for many skin tones!
Go for these if you’re keen to try some of the shades and only expect mediocre color payoff and lasting.
