Avon Ultra Color Lipstick SPF 15 VAMP: Review

Avon Ultra Color Lipstick SPF 15 VAMP (Rs 359/3.8g) comes into the Satin Finish Category and is a deep dark Purple, and looks very VAMPish true to its name. Available only through Avon representatives.

Comfortable Wear Lipstick with stay-true rich color.Colorant wrapped in Shea Butter and SPF 15. Infused with Vitamin E, Arctic berry and Omega-3. Lips feel smooth and moisturised

Avon’s NEW Makeup collection introduced in this month’s catalog features the NEW Ultra Color Lipsticks(20 shades), Ultra Glazewear Lip Glosses(6 shades), True Color Eye shadow Quads(5 shade combinations) and Ideal Luminous Cashmere Advanced Foundation (2 shades) and comes with Avon’s NEW True Color technology that promises to deliver the rich colors that you see on products. Being an Avon representative, I get very excited every time I get a new brochure and this month’s brochure has been haunting me ever since I got it sometime last month (yes, the benefits of being a representative , you get to see all the new launches beforehand!!)

So, being a BIG time lipstick fanatic, that I am, I was the most excited to pick up the lipsticks first and this time I decided to skip REDS. Err..bad decision, but we would talk about it later!
I have been looking for a dark Purple, bordering black, lipstick for trying some dark vampy looks, and couldn’t really bring myself to buy MAC’s Cyber which was the closest to what I wanted. The hunt finally ended with my find in Avon’s Ultra Color Lipstick in VAMP. No, it’s not a dupe, but quite close to the color I was looking for.

The packaging is simple and fuss free, an squared body with a cap that shuts with a click and a see though top.

The texture of this particular lipstick creamy, to the point of being slick. It delivered intense color in one stroke, however there was a considerable amount of slip that led a certain patchiness to the application as you can see in the images below. In this case, using a lip liner underneath, can totally rectify this issue. Despite being so slick, it did not feather or bleed. It,however, did settle into fine lines a bit, which I was expecting considering the slippery texture.
Although, the color claims to give Satin finish, it settled into a glossy finish.
The staying power is around 3+ hrs without meals, and there is a mild stain by the end of it.
The moisturizing properties are absolutely commendable, and my lips felt very soft and supple even after removing the color. It has an SPF of 15 , so that’s added sun protection for your lips.
Overall, the Avon Ultra Color Lipstick is a dark vampy purple, with smooth and creamy texture. There is slight slip while you apply the color on lips that renders uneven color, but the issue can be rectified by using a lip liner underneath. It delivers high on the moisturizing and the true color aspect. The color that you get on lips is actually what you see in the bullet. In my opinion, I would have actually preferred a satin finish for this color,as Avon claims, but I don’t really mind the glossy finish too. hese lip colors are excellent for those who prefer moisturizing lipsticks and with 20 shades to pick from, you’re sure to find one to love!! I’m surely picking up Lava Love (a gorgeous bright Red and Red 2000 from this range next week).
It’s a little more plummy than how it appears in the swatch
I took the pic at dusk, maybe bad lighting ruined the color here.
P.S. : Sorry about the sad look I did today…couldn’t think of anything better to match this lip color..maybe some other day……

hahahaha..Thank you for the generous comment Rads…Well, actually, I had something in mind, which I couldn't exactly translate into a look and that's why I didn't like the end result…I wanted to do a more intense and dark look with this lip color, this one turned out quite “colorful” …And honestly, even I wouldn't ever wear this color outside the comfort of my home…maybe for a Halloween party, but not otherwise… it's way too stark :/

How? How? How do you make even the most difficult shades look so easy to wear?

It was not easy..believe me Nivedita, I think with such colors, you have to choose complementing makeup very carefully…I tried my best, but to be honest, wasn't completely satisfied with the result..So glad that all of you liked and appreciated it…I would have wanted to do a heavily contoured face and a very light eye makeup with this lippie to bring out th ebest in the shade…Would re-attempt a look with this lip color again :)
